Tubing Seam We do this quite often. We like to make sections of our guardrails removable when guarding elevated work platforms. We will make the pocket 2.5" square tube (1/4" wall). The legs on the guardrail are 2" square tube. We do have to remove the seam in the 2.5" pocket.

You can remove a lot of metal with a chisel if you do it right, and 4" isn't that deep. If that was too slow, I'd try an unusual torch with the tip aligned with the tubes instead of at a 90 or 75 degree angle, fitted with a scarfing tip, and just flush off the inside weld seam.

To mount this part, the weld seam on the inside of the tube must be removed inorder for the part to stay flat. I need a way to remove the first 3"-4" of the inside weld seam. My operator currently takes his die grinder and a HSS burr and goes to work on it.

On short pieces, I've filed it. A shaper with a gooseneck tool would be perfect, but I don't have a shaper. What suggestions do you have for removing the bead far eough into the tubing to mount a spring shank coupler.

But you may want to make a fixture to keep the tube from bending out at the sides making another problem. Grinding it out if its going to be removable is kinda crude plus it weakens the tube.
