1040, 1045 (HR,CF) - Used when greater strength and hardness is desired in the as rolled condition. Good for hammer forge processes. Uses include gears, shafts, axles, bolts sand studs. 1040 is a medium-carbon steel composed of 0.37 to 0.44 percent carbon, 0.6 to 0.9 percent manganese, a maximum of 0.04 percent phosphorus and a maximum of 0.05 sulphur.
1045 v 4140 - Practical MachinistMar 17, 2017 · AISI 1045 is Definitely easy to machine- no special considerations needed over plain old 1020 M/S- you may notice a decrease in HSS drill life if you're running a few parts but will be much better than 4140. Where material spec allows 1045 is generally my default choice for anything made from round bar
Jun 08, 2009 · Just one question, Are we talking about a ASTM 1045 or AISI/SAE 1045 steel? Since the piece is an axle, I assume a AISI 1045 steel as base material. RE:ASTM 1045 Weldable? Ron (Structural) 12 May 09 17:28. Are you sure it was a clear shear failure? There is no apparent edge galling, or galling on the "hump" near the top.
ASTM A830 AISI 1045 Steel Plate Chapel SteelASTM A830 AISI 1045. A structural quality, medium-carbon steel plate produced to a chemical composition requirement. Applications include processing industries, gear production, and mining equipment. This grade is produced with .43-.50 carbon and .60-.90 manganese content. 1045 grade steel is included in the ASTM A830 family of specifications.

Effect of cooling rate on hardness and microstructure of 1020) and medium carbon (AISI 1040, AISI 1060) steels are rarely reported. The present study is aimed at under-standing the effect of cooling rate on the microhardness and microstructure of these steels. Experimental method Chemical compositions

Steel Alternative Dura-BarDura-Bar is an ideal alternative for many steel applications, particularly for carbon steel grades such as 1010, 1018, 1040, 1045, 1141, 1144, 1212, 1214, 1215, 1218, and 12L14. Depending on the application, even some grades of alloy bar are an excellent fit for Dura-Bar.

Tempering temps for 1045? - Heat Treating, general Aug 27, 2014 · It has 1040, 1050, 1070 and 1095. You could "interpolate" 1040 and 1050 for 1045. The bigger picture here is that you don't have 1045 with *precisely* .45% carbon. (In fact, the ranges could be such that a single piece of stock could meet both 1040 and 1045 specs! And something purchased as legit 1045 might have less carbon that some 1040 sample.)
Weldability 1045 & 4140The carbon content of AISI 1045 is nominally 0.45% carbon. That is only slightly higher than the nominal carbon content of the 4140 which has a nominal value of 0.40% carbon. However, what is not being considered is the sum of the effects of the other alloying constituents; chrome and molybdenum in the 4140 alloy.
Jan 03, 2020 · Both AISI 304 chrome steel and SAE-AISI 1045 steel are iron alloys. The carbon content of 1018 is 0.18%, and the carbon content material of 1045 metal is zero.45%. The 1 identifies that theyre both carbon steels, and the zero identifies that there have been no modifications to the alloy.1040 vs 1045 Steel Comparison Capital Steel & WireA comparison of the chemical and mechanical properties of 1040 and 1045 grade steel. Hot rolled and cold drawn statistics are used to distinguish 1040 vs 1045 steel grades. Both 1040 and 1045 steels are popular at Capital Steel & Wire, and both
